Austin’s musical lineage began in the late 1960s and 1970s when the country music popularised by individuals such as Willie Nelson was joined by a cornucopia of other styles and sounds brought by the more liberal inhabitants of the city who had moved there during the two decades. A well known Regional club called the Vulcan Gas Company was integral in the growth of the Austin music scene with seminal acts such as the 13th Floor Elevators and Shiva’s Headband playing shows there generally during the 60s and 70s. After the Vulcan was renamed the Armadillo World Headquarters it became a musical hub, promoting acts of all type of s, from bona fide stars such as Bruce Springsteen and Bette Midler to Regional jazz and blues acts.

Austin’s musical progression continued over the next few years, gaining a reputation as a place where struggling performers can launch their careers in front of a receptive fans. A major influence during this time was Clifford Antone who opened one of the first live music Clubs on Austin’s 6th Street (now widely regarded as the center of the Austin music scene) in 1975. His Club advocate ed start the career of blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan who went on to become one of the finest guitarists to ever grace the stage. Vaughan is revered so heavily by the Austin population that a statue was erected in his honour following his death in 1990. The Austin Music Foundation was additionally created around this time – a ground breaking organization that performance out to advocate independent performers further their career.

More recently, Austin has held its place at the top of the globally music scene with the addition of festivals such as ‘Austin City Limits Music Festival’ and ‘Blues on the Green’, a series of free blues gigs funded by Local/Regional organizations. Along with live gigs the festival furthermore screens ground breaking work by new and independent film makers as well as conferences with guest speakers from the world of music, sharing advice on making it in the music business. 2007’s event saw musical legends including Pete Townshend of the Who and David Byrne of Talking Heads sharing their knowledge of the inner workings of the music business.

Austin’s musical lineage grew to be the stuff of legend in a relatively short amount of time.  A lot of see this as a testament to the hard work put in by  promoters, bands, artists and Local companies who found success on their own terms by working together and support ing each other’s cause, a rare occurrence in the cut throat world of music. This camaraderie still continues now, with club s, Venues and hotels in Austin regularly packed with industry insiders and audiences eager to soak in some of the bustling, creative atmosphere.

Music, in any form, whether vocal or instrumental, classical or modern is the optimum form of entertainment as well as relaxing. Finding a person in this whole wide  world, who’s been untouched by the effect and magic of music is al most next to impossible. All multimedia gizmos have the provision of playing music. But quite again and again, what’s music for one person, may be noise for his neighbour. In such a situation, surround sound headphones are the optimum way to find pleasure in your music fully in the absence of disturb ing those around you.

Surround sound headphones are diverse from other headphones because they give a realistic feel to the music and bring the effect of live music. The perfect advantage of these headphones is that you might listen to and enjoy your music even with the volume turned up to the maximum, in the absence of disturb ing your family and neighbours.

The effect of the surround sound headsets is as good as listening to music using speakers. Where’s The Live Music in The North Costa Blanca

Live Music – all of us all love it in one form or another – whether a classical orchestral performance or a Rock n Roll performance in a football stadium or somewhere in between, little quite gets the juices flowing than hearing your favorite song played live. If you live in South Costa Blanca or the Costa Del Sol, there is an abundance of Venues and performers.

But where is it in North Costa Blanca?

Go to Javea or Benidorm on any night of the week you’ll find a bar playing live music, but try locating anything in Oliva, Ontinyent or roundabouts and you’d be lucky to find the odd publican playing a banjo.

So where is all the skill? It does exist and there are some particularly good performers around, with amazing repertoire and amazing individual ities. Each has a diverse musical style entertain the crowds diverse ly – and all are crowd pleasers. So the problem isn’t lack of skill – the problem is where to play.

Up until very recently it was c club enging to find anywhere to host live music, in part because of the Local council attitude who frown upon live music yet are happy to allow loud fireworks at 2AM. However it’s furthermore due to the apathy of the listening public. When a Club organizes live music the owner has to pay the musicians. If only ten individuals turn up then he has lost money. Most of these Clubs don’t charge a cover or add to the drinks prices, they hope enough individuals turn up to make it worth their while.

But imagine going for four weeks and managing to get 10 people in. Wouldn’t you be disheartened? I’m sure I would. They may be good people but they’re furthermore business people who make a living.

In some Clubs the owners put on live music and the turnout is in divergent. These places need a regular following to keep going and only by doing so will we get to see more acts, because the acts will only come If the re is a crowd to play to – and that means you need to do something.

So how do you find out about what is going on. Well there are a number of sources. The Inland Trader for one, has a what is on  persuade to keep you informed. There is likewise a excellent web site www.spanishbrolly.com where you might find information about who’s playing where, and www.spanishproperty-direct.co.uk has many articles about live music and reviews of artists.

But these sources additionally need the input from both the Clubs and artists.

So we have a responsibility for help ing to make a success of live music. If you know a Club organizing live music go and visit – you could find pleasure in yourself. Invite your companions, tell their companions, word of mouth is excellent advertising. The performers need Clubs to performance and crowds to performance to, the Clubs need our guide to keep providing us with live music, so we need to get behind the Clubs that put on live music – not next week, next month – but NOW – it is for our worth after all and what better than sitting outdoors with a good cold drink, listening to a excellent performer playing your favorite music. . Where else could you get free live music?

The listening public need to get behind our Clubs and guide them – they do a thankless task of providing music, dealing with performers ego’s and getting paid nothing for it, so the least all of us can do is guide them. Go do something divergent today and visit a live concert. See you there!!

Live Music Is Not Dead

Around the pubs and venues in the United Kingdom (UK) there are still many artists playing for only several pounds to demanding fanss who at the same time request Chuck Berry and the Arctic Monkeys. Keeping all these diverse people in the fans happy is never easy, but not impossible either. With good stage craft and clever of tunes at a specific Club, a good band can make anybody happy.

The organization of these performers is extraordinary. They must find like minded artists that are committed. Then they must find somewhere to practice. This isn’t easy as the majority can’t do this at home. If you’re fortunate to have a house extensive enough, it is un like ly you may get round the neighbours, as it is so loud! It can’t be turned down as everything must be as loud as the drums. A performer oftentimes hires a room to practice, at wonderful cost to themselves.

A band must furthermore spend literally thousands on equipment. PA, lighting, guitars, drums etc.

The next hurdle is transport
. For some reason the majority drummers cannot drive! Cars are oftentimes inadequate as you would need a fleet of about 5 for your gig, substantially expensive on the fuel, and impractical. Most performers have to hire or buy a van, again at wonderful cost to themselves.

When they have finally rehearsed all there material over weeks or months, they are ready to play live. It’s an rousing day, one of wonder, excitement and slight fear. You turn up to the Venue to find one man and his dog. And that man is  profoundly drunk, wants to be your manager, and giving you all the value of his ‘wisdom’ in the music game! The landlord is also drunk, and you cannot work out if he likes you or not.

You get poorly paid, if you get paid at all, and return home frequently out of pocket.

Nonetheless the real rock heroes come back for more. They find the perfect Clubs, secure a reputation, and performance at some exceptional places. Sure they still have bad shows, but the wonderful ones make up for it. They make it look so simple, but it isn’t. One such band can be seen at http://www.thehalfmonty.tk

The Half Monty have had there share of ups and downs. They have been ripped of at shows, played in the the majority dodgy Clubs, and heckled to death. But they’re still here, bigger and better than ever having learnt from their early days.

So recall, when you see a Regional band advertised at a pub or club, go see them and assist them. It isn’t simple for the lads and lasses. Perhaps buy them a beer after the concert if you really enjoyed it. , for these are the true heroes of rock.

Suicide prevention - suicide awareness tour - pick up the phoneThe reality of depression and suicide has inspired artists to take part in the PICK UP THE PHONE TOUR, a music tour committed to reducing the stigma associated with mental health as well as making the access to help and hope for all safe and without fear.

Houston-based art rockers Blue October will headline the inaugural PICK UP THE PHONE TOUR–where impassioned artists join together to raise awareness and funds for depression and suicide prevention–and Atlanta-based hip-hop artist and producer B.o.B will open on the trek.

The PICK UP THE PHONE TOUR marks the first-ever tour solely benefiting suicide prevention in history. The month-long trek will launch Thursday, October 22nd at the Music Farm in Charleston, SC and wrap up with a two-night stand at Stubbs in Austin, TX November 20 and 21. See the full PUTP tour itinerary below; tickets are on sale now. To purchase, visit: http://www.putp.org and http://www.blueoctoberfan.com/pickupthephone/.

The PICK UP THE PHONE TOUR will launch with a press conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC Wednesday, October 21 at 10:00 AM. Justin Furstenfeld, the lead singer of Blue October, will be on hand to speak and perform an acoustic set before members of Congress as well as supporters of the tour partners 1-800 SUICIDE, PostSecret and TWLOHA.

Justin–who has struggled with bi-polar disorder most of his life–will be calling on Congress to fund both creative writing and art therapy programs as alternative options for mental health. The press conference will also urge Congress to fully fund the Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act which provides the funding behind the majority of the suicide prevention programs in the United States today. The press conference is open to all on a first-come first-served basis, to RSVP, email TWLOHA: PUTP@TWLOHA.com.

The PICK UP THE PHONE TOUR is created through a partnership between the non-profit organization To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA), the largest charity on MySpace and Facebook: Postsecret.com; Synclive.com; and 1-800 SUICIDE The National Hopeline Network.

Through 1-800 SUICIDE–which provides a life-saving service that is private and confidential for people in need–callers are routed directly to the closest crisis center in their immediate area so that quick referrals to behavioral health services and other supports can be offered. Since 1998, 1-800-SUICIDE has received over 3.6 million calls and rescued more than 4,000 individuals who had already initiated suicide plans.

The spokesperson for the PICK UP THE PHONE TOUR 2009, Justin Furstenfeld personally understands the struggles those who are affected by mental health issues face on a daily basis. “It has taken 20 years to have the chance to do a tour focusing on mental health issues which have been a daily battle for me for most of my life,” explains Justin.

“It’s great to finally be a part of a positive, progressive-thinking tour for an important cause which will make a direct impact and help people in desperate situations that need it the most.” In a strange turn of events in his own life, Justin worked at a mental hospital one day and, after suffering a breakdown, became a patient in a hospital the next.

Justin–who has taken medication for the condition since he was a teenager–now teaches creative writing at a mental hospital to young adults affected by mental health issues, self-abuse issues and sexual abuse. Through personal experiences and music, Justin challenges young minds to channel their emotions and anger into creative writing and art versus taking their frustrations out on themselves or the world around them.

He performs his art around the world, sending a message of hope to thousands who know and trust his message because he fights the same battles they fight every day. Justin is living proof that if you reach out and allow yourself to be helped you can lead a beautiful life filled with love, family and career.

“In moments of bravery and confusion and honesty, people turn to 1-800-SUICIDE–over three million of them,” points out Jamie Tworkowski, founder of To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA).

“The folks at the Hopeline Centers have been answering those calls for ten years, picking up the phone when it’s mattered most. Now to help those who will not pick up the phone, together with 1-800-SUICIDE we are launching the first 24×7 online emotional support network called AliveIM!, which will soon be available at www.suicide.net.”

To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA)–a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide–exists to encourage, inform and inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery.

Since 2006, TWLOHA has responded to over 100,000 messages from people in over 40 different countries and have invested over half a million dollars directly into treatment and recovery, including $50,000 to help fund the AliveIM! support network.

In another innovative move, the tour has partnered with Synclive.com to air live performances from the artists via the Internet as well as provide an immediate online confidential connection for fans in need. Synclive.com will create an essential connection for concertgoers in crisis who are unable to approach a booth at the show in-person either for direct help or to volunteer for the online counseling program.

About To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA):

In 2006, Jamie Tworkowski wrote a story, a glimpse into a friend’s life and her first steps to recovery from drug addiction, self-injury, and depression. The story, titled To Write Love On Her Arms (TWLOHA), and t-shirts Tworkowski printed to help pay for his friend’s recovery, started a movement, not only within his local Orlando, FL community, but one that was swiftly embraced by people everywhere.

Realizing a strong need to bring these mental health issues to light, Jamie created TWLOHA–a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury and suicide–and enlisted bands such as Paramore, Thrice, Anberlin, Switchfoot, Bayside, The Almost to spread TWLOHA’s message.

Jamie and TWLOHA joined national and international touring bands spreading their message of hope before bands took the stage each night. In August 2007, MySpace awarded TWLOHA the winner of their “Impact Award” for “Community Building,” TWLOHA garnered the most votes in the history of the Impact Awards.

To Write Love on Her Arms began with one broken girl, one painful night; addiction, depression, self-injury. It is the realization of what life can be when people commit to meeting a need. “A friend of mine told me there is no such thing as suicide prevention. This is an attempt to prove him wrong, to say that love can change a life. We can hold back the darkness. Rescue is possible,” says Tworkowski. www.twloha.com

Top 5 Reasons Why Live Music Is Always Better Than A DJ

Posted by Concert Venues | Posted in Live Music Venues | Posted on 26-10-2009

0

I have spent hours and hours practicing my instruments and I have spent thousands of dollars on my education. I might come up with 20 Reasons. But I’llstart with 5.

1. Classier: The right performer adds a certain amount of class to any event. A pianist playing a Grand Piano in a tuxedo of any party adds romance and dignity. A deejay behind a record player never will be able to create that effect.

When you hire a live band or musician, you’re telling your customers and friends, ” I’m a class act.”

2. Versatility: DJs are limited by their recorded product and tempos on the recordings.

Musicians will a disc jockey ust to their surroundings. Assuming that the dance floor is packed, a performer can keep the song going and will not be limited to the length of the original recording.

A musician might likewise differ his tempo to the activities in a room. When I see a romantic couple dancing to Frank Sinatra tune, I’ll usually add that spark that I feel for my wife.

Granted, a deejay can have a repertoire that’s only limited by the amount of CDs they buy. But a nice artist knows thousands of tunes.

I know I’ve probably forgotten more tunes than I learned over the years. You will love watching the performer ‘fake’ their way through a tune they haven’t played in years.

That kind of spontaneity is only possible when you use live music instead of a DJ. Which brings us to Reason #3.

3. People Love To See Other People Screw Up: Let’s face it. Musicians are human beings. we make mistakes prefer everybody else. Why’s American Idol so popular? Because we all want to see a person fail. And succeed! Your companions and customers will love to try and “stump the band” when we are playing at your Sales gathering or Product Rollout. (Watch their amazement when we succeed.) “Music is a Manifestation of Emotion.  The feeling must always override the Technique” – Jan Hammer (Keyboards for Mahavishnu Orchestra and Jeff Beck)

4. Intimacy: There is something  surprisingly intimate about seeing someone play an instrument and create music on the spot. Music is magical. It is al most surreal. can a DJ play with emotion? Intimacy? people love to watch my hands as I play the piano. It is as Assuming that the music appears out of nowhere. When a musician performs for you, it feels like they’re creating just for you — right on the spot. Magical!

5. Interaction: Not only will a amazing entertainer a DJ ust his performance to a live listeners. A live performer will interact with each other onstage. A DJ is only one person. Inevitably a DJ might and will interact with his listeners. But a nice artist will interact so much better. additionally, just imagine the added dimension a live performer will bring to your next business Event. A live performer will interact with your listeners AND the artists in the band. If you have ever had the pleasure of listening to a group of artists ‘hang out’ following the gig, you know what I am saying is true. A DJ has only an listeners for interaction.

Music is truly the universal language. It transcends any barrier — geographic, cultural or economic. Hiring the right Musical Act will improve your ability to reach your customers and clients.

Nashville, Live Music, Free For Your satisfaction

Most individuals who enjoy seeing live music acts take for granted that live entertainment don’t come cheap. Music festivals a lot of the time have a high price tag, but are generally well value the cost. If you attend Regional shows at performance venues the ticket price may be twice as much as one would pay for say, dinner and a movie. Even clubs that specialize in Regional or Regional acts have cover charges. You would expect large tourist towns prefer Branson, Missouri to charge a hefty price for name acts and elaborate shows, and they do. Entertainment is something all of us all expect to pay a price for. Free live music isn’t a common experience.

One place where you might go see major national acts in performance for a price and furthermore see much free entertainment as well is Nashville Tennessee. Nashville has an advantage over many other music oriented tourist towns. It’s a working music city. Folks go there to make it ample in the music business. The place is full of artists. And,since there is so much competition in town, many of them are quite nice at their craft.

On Broadway street downtown Nashville, you’ll find club after club with the sound of live music pouring from their interiors. All you got to do is step in, have a drink or two, enjoy the show, and then mosey on down to the next bar. You might do this all day if you want because a lot of of these clubs have live acts starting early in the day.

With so much recording being done in town and so many artists making their home there, Nashville is one place where al most anybody you pass on the street might be a musical star of some kind. Also, even though Country music is what the town is known for, many other styles are practiced all around town as well. There’s a heavy Americana scene as well as Bluegrass clubs and even Blues bars.

Nashville is a center of music production, management, and business in general. This offers many potential opportunities for folks to catch excellent live music. I’llgive an example of something that happened to me that proves that the the majority unexpected things can happen in a city so centered in the music industry.

During the time of a recent Americana Music Conference I has been hanging around town for a couple of days. I has been checking out as many venues as I may and had tickets to the awards show on Saturday night. On Friday following noon I has been looking for compact disc’s in a south 8th a Club record store called Grimey’s. I saw a poster on the wall saying that Tony Joe White has been going to be there the next following noon. I’d been a extensive fan of the Swamp Fox for many years and thought it would be great to get him to sign his latest disc for me. I has been there early the next day.

The record retailer has been full of folks as I expected. They’d pushed some of the compact disc  bins back a bit to make some room. I has been surprised to see a drum kit performance up. There were some amps too. Some guys wandered in and started giving out free beers. Somebody said they were part of his crew. Tony Joe walked in with his guitar, and sat down about ten feet from me and plugged in. He did an hour performance. I has been amazed. I’d have been glad to part with a hundred large ones to get a occasion to see the Swamp Blues King. Here he has been, close enough to touch, playing for free and he bought me a beer as well. This never happens where I come from.

The whole story was that Tony Joe had offices in the same building and was companions with the retailer owner. That is just Nashville, folks. That type of thing is possible in a town overflowing with music. can be you won’t have the same type of luck but when you’re in Nashville, the possibilities are always there.
