Indie Music is Pretty Swede – The Swedish Indie Music Empire-When it comes to indie music, there are many hotbeds of talent but Sweden isn’t normally one you would naturally think of. Unfortunately, the music history of that nation appears to start and end with Abba for many people, but over...

Listen While You Work

Listen While You Work-When you are writing articles do you listen while you work to the radio or and iPod? Many people like to listen to music while they work and some studies have shown that this can increase productivity. Other studies have shown that listening to music while you work will be too distracting for some. As an online article author I have noticed something interesting.

That is if I am listening to Classical, 80’s XM or at Borders, Barnes and Noble, Caribous, Coffee Beanery, Its a Grind or Starbucks while writing then my articles come out differently? That is to say they are almost in tune and in tone with the beat, seriousness or relaxing feel of the music. I always think that is kind of interesting.

Sometimes the music brings up a point or a phrase, which is apropos to the subject and then I have to stop briefly and write a new title for that idea. I was listening to Fiona Apple the other day and decided many phrases were worthy of potential subject matter or potential titles for articles. This is a great subject to contemplate for online article authors who often submit their articles to online article submission web sites.

An online article author may need to be careful to make sure that listening to music is not too distracting or causing too many mistakes. Some people feel is best to turn off all the music and all the noise to concentrate on your writing and for others this is too unbearable and they want to listen to music. Have you considered this in 2006.

Rock Music – A Good Influence?

Rock Music – A Good Influence?-When children are young, it is easy to control the type of music they listen to. Mostly, children listen to what the parents do. Parents may choose to listen to music written specifically for kids, but at other times, the family may listen to whoever set the stereo station last.

The question becomes: Is Rock music safe for children?

Nearly all the best-selling albums of all time are Rock. But is this ‘rebellious’ genre of music having a positive or negative impact on children and society?

As with just about every subject, there are many pros and cons.

The fact is: Rock is a form of art that promotes creativity and expression. Many songs have very poetic lyrics and send off great messages to people. A big message sent through music these days is world change.

In 1985, Live Aid was put on by many rock musicians from Black Sabbath to U2. It raised over 232 million dollars for famine relief in Ethiopia and was inspired by the song ‘The Tide is Turning’ by Roger Waters of Pink Floyd.

Even today, many bands put on benefits for a plethora of causes. Several bands have toured in Iraq to perform for our troops overseas. Also many rock benefit concerts were put on to raise money after the 9-11 attacks, Hurricane Katrina, and the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake.

Bands also promote Christianity in their music, especially in today’s day and age. Popular bands, such as P.O.D., Flyleaf, Pillar, and many others, widely and openly promote religion through their music. And other bands, such as Breaking Benjamin and Chevelle, subtly promote it through their poetic and abstract lyrics.

Looking at their generosity of both their talent and money, it is clear that many Artists have chosen to spread joy. Are there other benefits?

Music in general, as well as Rock, can inspire children to pick up a healthy hobby of playing music. Learning an instrument helps a child find a form of creativity they can express in an unimaginable amount of ways. Even if they aren’t going to become the next icon, enjoying music can often grant the listener or player an outlet for emotional issues or traumatic events as life progresses.

However, much like all good things, inevitably, you will also find the bad.

Many artists express their feelings through morbid and perverse metaphors and talk about dark taboo subjects. These artists have a breathtaking talent that people should be open to, but they are simply not for children.

Parental advisories can’t always be trusted. For instance, the songs ‘Digital Bath’ and ‘Lhabia’ by Deftones talks about a daydream of grisly melancholic acts, acted out of boredom. This album has no parental advisory on it at all. Yet, that same band has songs against drugs, racism, and other positive influences, but is also not for young children.

As much as the R.I.A.A. tries to help, they are not the parents of America.

As our children start to discovery their own taste in music, parents need to monitor the content and words. Maybe your child has found a singer or band that they really like. You have listened to the song and approve. Make sure when you buy that CD though, you carefully listen to all of the songs or simply purchase the one song that you approved.

Rock seems to be the most controversial but it also has many positive influences that should be taken in to consideration. There are some negatives that come with it, and those should be filtered out by the parents.

As a family and society, we do not want record companies, or anyone else for that matter, to decide what we feel is appropriate or not. We enjoy the privilege of making that decision. We do appreciate their input, hence the labeling. But, when it comes down to it, we are the parents; we will take responsibility for what our children are plugging in their ears.

So, the next time your child wants to listen to a song they like, instead of immediately refusing, listen with both ears. You will learn much of what your child likes and dislikes. You will gain insight into the thinking of your child. You will also learn what to absolutely deny your child.

Music – The Food of Soul

Music – The Food of Soul-Music is said to be the food of the soul. There is nothing more swaying and gratifying than good music. Soothing music heals the mind. Entertainment will not get completed without music and playing of your favorite music and songs changes your tension filled mind right away to a more relaxed and tranquil state of mind. If you compose a piece of really nice music you need to write it down so that you can remember and other people will also be able to play it too. Live music is favored at parties and events. Live music entertainment consists of classical music, Jazz, Swing, World music, period music of 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and the 90’s and performed by artists who haven’t made it big and classical music consists of quintet, quartet, trio, duo and solo.

Whether it is a birthday party, wedding reception, a private party or a corporate party, live music is a must if you are not hiring a DJ to mix songs for you. The choice of songs and music may be limited with a live music performance, but it is the limited selected songs and music, which makes the band endearing to people. DJs would charge 25% – 50% of what a live music performing band charges. However, the charm of live music is something that is enticing if one can afford it. Some live music performing bands capture and reproduce the tone of music that were not recorded properly by the ingenuous recording machines of the 50‘s and the 60’s. Performances of live music can be known on any instrument as a piano, guitar, keyboard, harpoon, flute, trumpet, saxophone and the jazz set.

Music is intimately related to the subliminal mind because it blends our emotions. Perhaps you can recall listening to a jingle and finding the tune and the advertising slogan replaying in your mind over and over, even if you disliked the jingle. It just trapped into your mind. Hypnosis is another prevailing trait of music. One of the main reasons for using music for self-hypnosis is to help you maintain mental and emotional focus on your outcome. The music that helps to elicit within you emotions which are appropriate for your self-hypnosis outcome, will take care of the focus. Your intention can then ride of the wave of music, making focusing an effortless process.

Benefits:

Music has quite a lot of advantages despite serious reductions in subsidy for arts programs in public schools, there is a great need for studying music. Band, orchestra, and choir all offer students a chance to work together in a social and intellectual group setting and excel at complex tasks. The deception for parents is to enroll their children in high quality programs and aid them in procuring high quality instruments.

Experience Live Music With Surround Sound Headsets-Music, in any form, whether vocal or instrumental, classical or modern is the best form of entertainment as well as relaxing. Finding a person in this whole wide world, who has been untouched by the effect and magic of music is almost next to impossible. All multimedia gadgets have the provision of playing music. But quite often, what is music for one person, may be noise for his neighbour. In such a situation, surround sound headsets are the best way to enjoy your music fully without disturbing those around you.

Surround sound headsets are different from other headsets because they give a realistic feel to the music and bring the effect of live music. This three dimensional effect is achieved by separating the front, rear and central speakers. It enhances the quality, and shuts out all disturbances while you are enjoying the music. The best advantage of these headsets is that you can listen to and enjoy your music even with the volume turned up to the maximum, without disturbing your family members and neighbours.

The effect of the surround sound headsets is as good as listening to music using speakers. Surround sound headsets cover the entire outer ear area and the curve of the ear, and this feature makes it much better than ordinary headsets. One can use these headphones with any music system, PC and even the television. The person gets all the advantages of hearing everything without any external noise or disturbance.

These headsets can also be used to watch movies in private and even while playing games on your games console. Surround sound headsets are based on the sound decoding technology. This is responsible for giving tremendous clarity in what you hear. User who have used these headsets have said that listening to music using these is as good as listening to a live orchestra with all the musicians standing beside you.

Concert Promotions – The Big Dream

Concert Promotions – The Big Dream-Concert promotion is an integral part of the music industry. Concert promoters are the people that get the artists scheduled to perform at a venue. Concert promotion is not to be taken lightly or entered into without sufficient backing in terms of finances and experience. Some people dream all their lives about putting on a great event featuring top talent. Concert promotion is a demanding career that requires serious attention to detail. In order to be an effective and successful concert promoter, a high level of organization is necessary.

Concert promotions are typically a 5% net margin business. Not exactly a sexy bottom line. Concert promotion is a risky and low-margin business. In Q2 07 — traditionally, the spring and summer are the strongest for the concert business — Live Nation squeaked out operating income of $36 million on sales of $1 billion. Concert promotion is a very ugly business. Everyone seems to jump on the promoter for everything.

The last people who catch the heat are the performers, although many times the problems surfacing at a scheduled concert can be laid at their feet. But the bottom line is there would be no concert without the performers. So what’s the chance that the performers are going to be held responsible. Now while it wasn’t a concert per se, the performance during the infamous super bowl half time show by Janet Jackson when there was the costume problem, the crap that flew because of that was laid at the feet of the artists. I personally think it did nothing but boost Miss Jackson’s appeal and give her career a little kick in the pants.

Whichever way you look at it, budding young concert promoter hopefuls are going to have a tough time breaking into the big time. But there is plenty of opportunity for a young aggressive business type to work on a regional level and hone his or her skill. It’s a fact that people love music. And music of all types. As proof of that I offer up the fact that in our local area, every year there is a big Accordion festival. Yes I said, Accordion. And it draws scores of fans. And I’m not talking about 40 fans sitting on a couple of benches. People come from all over the country to perform at the concert. And on top of that, music buffs from all over the country travel here to attend the festival. Go figure. Next time you see someone eating a bratwurst……who knows, they may be a big accordion fan.

Concert Promotions is a fascinating business and has a seemingly magical lure to a lot of people, but it is a very tough road to travel. There are many other jobs or careers that offer better chances of success, but the cachet connected with the music industry is just too strong for many to resist.

Concerts – Concert For George

Concerts – Concert For George-In this article we’re going to briefly review one of the most touching concerts that was ever held for another person, The Concert For George.

There are very few people in history who you can mention their first name, say the word concert and know exactly who that concert was for. The Concert For George was one of those concerts. George of course being the late George Harrison of the Beatles.

George Harrison died of brain cancer on November 29, 2001. One year later the memorial concert for this great musician was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London. It is only fitting that this was the place as Harrison was 100% English from the top of his head to the tips of his magical guitar fingers. Many feel he was the overlooked Beatle. Everything was about John and Paul. But most critics feel that George Harrison was the heart and soul of the Beatle’s guitar sound which has since be copied by so many artists.

The idea for the concert was George’s good friend Eric Clapton’s. Clapton and Harrison had actually been friends for a long time and first played together on the White Album. The song, of course, was “While My Guitar Gently Weeps.” Clapton put together a memorial that Harrison himself would have smiled at.

The concert began with the daughter of one of Harrison’s great friends, Ravi Shankar, singing “Your Eyes.” After this song the daughter, who’s name is Anoushka, teamed with another one of Harrison’s friends, Jeff Lynne of ELO fame, to sing “The Inner Light” which was one of George Harrison’s own tunes.

The concert itself was a mixture of music and comedy, which is very unusual for a concert. The comedy was handled mostly by the ensemble of Monty Python who, along with Tom Hanks, performed “Sit On My Face” and “The Lumberjack Song” which was one of Monty Python’s funniest and most famous tunes.

The rest of the concert featured more of George’s friends and the remaining members of the Beatles, Paul and Ringo. Also there were Tom Petty, Billy Preston, and Gary Brooker from Procal Harem. George’s son Dhani was also on hand. If you watch the video of the concert you would swear that Dhani was George Harrison if you didn’t know better.

The remainder of the concert featured mostly songs that were either done by The Beatles or songs that George had done solo or with other performers such as when he was with Tom Petty during his stint with The Traveling Willburys.

The songs are a who’s who of some of the greatest tunes these people ever did together or separately. They included such classics as George’s signature song “Something,” the Beatles’ like “Isn’t It A Pity,” “Here Comes The Sun,” a Ringo tune that George played on, “Photograph,” “All Things Must Pass,” “My Sweet Lord,” and finishing with “I’ll See You In My Dreams,” which was an appropriate ending for the concert.

Neil Diamond Concert Blues-Hearing Neil Again

I heard about the Neil Diamond concert coming to Charlotte on December 12. I became excited and tried to buy tickets. After a few hours on the internet, I realized this was going to be a treat reserved for those who could afford to pay the scavenger’s exorbitant prices for the tickets. Not that Neil isn’t worth it, I just can’t afford it. Thus, my moodiness tonight. I want to hear Neil in person one last time, and can’t.

Loving Neil has been a lifetime joy of mine. He captured my heart in the 60’s with “Cherry, Cherry” and later with “Song Sung Blue” and “Stones”, and many others. I saw him in concert in Charlotte in 1977. After the concert, I drove behind the coliseum, saw a bus, thought it was his and chased it all over Charlotte at high rates of speed until I lost track and was forced to go home. I honestly thought I would follow this bus to it’s destination upon which Neil would depart and walk into my arms to stay forever. I was 29 years old then.

I am 61 now, and still have that fantasy…someday I will take Neil into my arms and convey my absolute appreciation of his talent and sensitivity. His songs guided me through years of self-discovery, new motherhood, loss of love, and finally rediscovering myself. No matter what my mood, Neil’s music could take me there. I nursed my babies in the wee hours of the morning to the sound of Neil, I loved my husband in the wee hours with the echoes of Neil’s music in my head, I endured my boring jobs with the beat of Neil’s music in my limbs yearning to dance, to express, to feel his words with motion. Neil always had a song that would relate to whatever was going on with my life. I need to let him know it. I need to go to this concert. It will probably be by last chance.

The concert is a big deal to me. It’s probably a big deal to Neil. We’re both getting older, both needing to justify our years, both needing to be appreciated, both needing to feel that we’ll be remembered. He will be remembered for his talent, but will I be remembered as the the dedicated, lifelong fan?

Barry Manilow Concert Details-Barry manilow is best known American singer and songs writer, he started singing at the age of 13. Singer and piano player Barry Manilow was one of the biggest pop music hitmakers of the 1970s. He attended the Julliard School of Music and then began working as a pianist (and later music director) for singer Bette Midler. Early in his career he was a jingle writer and singer, writing the theme for state farm insurance and he worked has a pianist, producer and arranger, his major solo hits include Mandy, Copacabana. He wrote hundreds of songs and won Grammy, Emmy and Tony awards and an Oscar nomination along the way. He signed with bell records and released his debut solo album.

Barry Manilow has long been a supporter of charitable and humanitarian efforts around the world, in addition to his foundations, the manilow funds for health and hope, his altruistic involvement includes the prince’s trust, united way, starlight foundation and many more.
Manilow’s first hit single, “Mandy,” was #1 on the charts in 1974; it was the first of a string of two dozen hit singles, including “Weekend In New England,” “Copacabana,” “I Write the Songs” and “Can’t Smile Without You.”

In terms of both record sales and career longevity, Barry Manilow is one of the most successful adult contemporary singers ever. That success hasn’t necessarily translated to respect (or even ironic hipster appreciation) in most quarters; Manilow’s music has been much maligned by critics and listeners alike, particularly the romantic ballads that made his career, which were derided as maudlin schlock even during his heyday. It’s true that Manilow’s taste for swelling choruses and lush arrangements often bordered on bombastic, but unlike many of his MOR peers, Manilow wasn’t aiming to make smooth, restrained background music — he conceived of himself as a pop entertainer and all-around showman in the classic mold, and his performances and stage shows were accordingly theatrical.

Albums of Barry include:
1. Barry Manilow Greatest Hits
2. One Voice
3. Oh Julie
4. Here Comes the Night
5. Swing Street

Hit Singles by Barry Manilow:
1. Could It Be Magic
2. I Write The Songs
3. Ready To Take A Chance Again
4. Somewhere In The Night
5. When I Wanted You
