How To Get Concert Tickets You Know Are Going To Sell Out

Posted by Concert Venues | Posted in Concert Venues | Posted on 31-01-2009

Concert Tickets for certain artists can and sometime will sell out within minutes. Many people always ask what they can do to get concert tickets they know are going to sell out. There are a few thing that can certainly be done. One thing to do is sign up to artists mailing list or fan club. By joining the musicians fan club, you not only get emails announcing their upcoming concerts our tour, but many also give their members a chance to get tickets before the general public. They do this by sending out presale passwords and having companies like Ticketmaster sell tickets the advertised on-sale dates. Only members with presale passwords will be able to purchase tickets in advance. If there is a band or musician which you must attend every concert they have in your area, then joining their fan club is a good idea. Not all fan club members will be able to get tickets though, as there may be more members than the actual amount of tickets they are releasing.

Another way to get concert tickets is just by trying to buy them when they go on-sale to the general public. The one thing you need to know here is that you have to buy them the minute they go on sale. The way to do this is to find out the time they are going to go on sale and in what time zone. You should load up your browser up to the website selling the tickets several minutes before the release time. Navigate to the page where you select the number of tickets. Before you start the search, make sure you wait right until the on-sale time. If you are able to find seats you may purchase them or release them and search again. Remember that a lot of other people will be searching the same way and releasing tickets back if they are not satisfied with the seat selection.

If you know that the concert will sell out, you should buy your concert tickets if they are in a good location. A lot of times, people think that they can get pit tickets or tickets in the first row and will release perfectly good seat selections in hopes that they can get better seats. The odds of you finding better seat locations after you have released good seats is slim to none. If you do have great seats, get them.

If the show sells out and you were not able to get any seats, you still can get some on the secondary market. Ticket prices will generally be higher because the seller can set the price at whatever he or she wants. Pricing will be determined by how popular the concert is and how high the demand is. Ticket brokers will usually have a large selection of ticket in premium areas such as pit or front and center rows. You can usually search the ticket brokers inventory at your leisure online. This way, you can select the best seat locations without feeling any pressure.

Benefits of Buying Concert Tickets Online

Posted by Concert Venues | Posted in Concert Venues | Posted on 30-01-2009

For many people, it is very exciting to have the opportunity to see a live performance of their favorite singer or musical band. They look forward to finding out what acts are going to be visiting their town and putting on concerts. But, even the most excited and die-hard fans can get discouraged and loose enthusiasm for a concert when faced with long lines at the box office to buy the concert tickets they want.

But, these days there really is very little reason to stand in long lines like people used to do before the internet. No longer do people need to camp out overnight and wait for the box office to open and start selling the coveted tickets for the concert. They don’t have to sleep on the sidewalk in order to be first in line so they can grab the best seats in the house.

Instead, even the biggest fans of a group can buy tickets for just about any performance online. These days there are plenty of online ticketing websites that make it easy and simple to buy any concert tickets a person could want.

In a way, these websites that sell tickets online can even be considered to be a virtual box office. These sites not only sell tickets to concerts but you can buy tickets to a number of different types of events as well. In addition, these ticket agency websites are an excellent source of information about all of the different performances, shows, plays and events that are coming to your area. They typically have calendars that show all of the various acts and where they will be performing.

Because of this, you can get tickets for a concert on the internet, but as well, often in the same transaction, you can also buy tickets for more than one concert or for a Broadway production that is coming to town. This makes it easy to plan and organize your entertainment schedule so that you can be sure that you don’t purchase tickets to different events on the same day.

Many of these special websites that provide ticket sales also have regular email newsletters that you can subscribe to. At the time you subscribe, you can indicate what type of entertainment you are most interested in seeing, and then as new performances are scheduled, the site can send you an email to alert you of the ticket information and when the ticket sales will begin. This way you don’t even have to spend time searching for what types of shows and performances are coming your way, since you will already be informed so you can make your plans and take action as soon as the online ticket sales begin.

Sometimes, these websites that provide ticket sales will also hold contests for their members or their subscribers. You might be able to win free concert tickets or get a discount on your tickets through these contests. At times, there are even opportunities to get VIP seating or backstage passes, so it makes sense to sign up for these free newsletters.

Got Those Concert Tickets? Now Make Sure You Have a Great Night!

Posted by Concert Venues | Posted in Concert Venues | Posted on 29-01-2009

Having bought the concert tickets that you were after, you are probably now looking forward to a great gig and a wonderful night out. There is certainly more to planning your evening than simply getting hold of the concert tickets. There is loads to plan to make sure that the evening runs smoothly, such as how to actually get to the venue, whether to eat before or after the gig, where you might go for a coffee or a drink, staying safe, and getting home afterwards.

Many modern venues for concerts are very large and can hold thousands of people. To make sure everyone gets in and out safely, these places have loads of different entrances and exits, and there are different ones for different tickets. It’s a good idea to check out in advance from your ticket which entrance you will be expected to use.

If you are going to the concert by car, it is a good idea to know in advance where you will be parking. If the parking place is some distance from the venue, you will have to factor in walking time to your schedule. The last thing you want is to be walking for miles and miles, when all you want to do is get to your gig.

If you want to go somewhere to eat before your gig, then a bit of planning will be in order too. Consider whether it is worthwhile to book a table beforehand, and when you book, check up on how long it may take to get served. Most likely a lot of other people attending the gig will be looking to eat at the same time, and this will fill up the local restaurants really quickly. Most of all, you don’t want to end up having to rush off to the concert when you are only halfway through your meal.

As for drinking, it may be worth bearing in mind that you don’t want to overdo it, as this will end up ruining your enjoyment of the concert, and probably other people’s enjoyment of it too. One of the major considerations will be getting to the gig, and then getting home again. To save all the bother of wondering where to park your car, you might consider going to the concert by public transport, and this may well be the best option if you think you may drink alcohol at the gig. When planning to go by public transport you will find most of the up-to-date bus and train timetables available on the web, and be sure to get your times all worked out, allowing for time to walk to and from the venue from the bus stop or train station.

On the subject of security, it is often a good idea to wait behind at the venue itself for some fifteen to twenty minutes in order to let the large crowd disperse. If you leave with everybody else, you might find the congestion to be quite uncomfortable, and sometimes even downright dangerous. Also, if you are going to collect young people from a concert, they are much easier to find once most of the crowd has gone. The security guards will still be around, making it reasonably safe for them to hang around for a while. It is often a good idea to decide on a definite pick up point, so that you will not miss each other, and many popular venues have clear landmarks where you can arrange to meet. In case of problems, it is best that you make sure that the young people have mobile phones, and that they make sure that they are switched on straight after the gig has finished.

Remember to enjoy your concerts, do plenty of forward planning, and stay safe!

Live Concert Applications and Broadband Media Advances

Personal computers are becoming a necessity and an important fixture in more and more homes in the United States and across the globe. As home computer popularity grows, businesses and service providers are extending offers and wares through emails and online advertising. Gone are the days of junk mail, today, junk email and pop-ups are the norm. Along with advertising and sales, the Internet has opened doors for large multimedia events such as sports, concerts, and festivals, to be broadcast live into homes worldwide, reaching millions. New advances in broadband media abilities combined with advances in home computers are allowing interactivity and audience enjoyment and involvement in ways never before imagined by venue owners and concert promoters alike.

Live music shows are becoming more and more extravagant each year. Large fleets of commercial tractor-trailer trucks are now used to transport the millions of dollars of gear necessary to mount a show the size of an act such as the Rolling Stones or the like, and costs of putting on such shows, what with renting a venue, paying a crew, and renting equipment, are definitely on the rise. No matter how large a particular venue might be, there are only so many seats housed within, and only so many tickets available to be sold and bought by fans. What if there was a way to bring the show to fans, fans that would be willing to pay for tickets to view their favorite musicians from their homes?

Enter the world of live broadcasting and broadband media. New advances in broadband media are supplying solutions and new avenues to generate ticket sales and heighten audience experience. No longer do “superfans” of groups need journey thousands of miles to see their heroes prance about and play upon the stage. Broadcast media pioneers like Whiteblox can provide Internet viewers with the ability to not only hear their favorite music in pristine, high fidelity audio across bandwidth, they can provide viewers with high resolution visuals as well. With multi-camera ability, viewers are interactively able to pick the camera angle at will, zooming in on their favorite guitarist’s blistering solo, or perhaps checking out the beautiful girl in the front row.

The possibilities are endless and the forecasted sales are mind-boggling. Imagine what sort of numbers a reunion of an esteemed act like Led Zeppelin could generate if promoters would broadcast it on the Internet for eagerly awaiting fans? Would broadband be up to that sort of viewership challenge? Providers like Whiteblox would try their best to be up to that challenge.

Concerts – Woodstock

Posted by Concert Venues | Posted in Concert Venues | Posted on 27-01-2009

In this article we’re going to reflect on one of, if not the most famous concert in history, Woodstock.

If you were growing up in the 60s and were part of the hippie movement you were probably at the concert at Woodstock, even if you weren’t there. Over the years, the number of people who claim to have been at Woodstock has gone from thousands to millions. Everyone has a story to tell about that. What follows, is the actual story in a very brief summary.

The actual name of the concert was The Woodstock Music And Art Fair, held in 1969 in Sullivan County in New York. This was truly the biggest concert of its kind to that date in history. The actual number of people in attendance was about 450,000. The concert itself ran for four days. The site itself has become a self appointed shrine. During the concert, in a time when drugs were most illegal, drugs were everywhere and people were having sex out on the lawn. And unfortunately, that is mostly what is written about when it comes to anything involving this event. But there was more to Woodstock than just sex and drugs.

Woodstock was a musical event the likes of which we will probably never see again. The concert itself cost more than $2.4 million to produce. Back then, that was a lot of money. The four men responsible for getting this piece of history together were John Roberts, Joel Rosenman, Artie Kornfeld and Michael Lang. These were men who couldn’t be more different from each other. Yet, they all had a vision to put something like this together.

The idea first originated when Roberts and Rosenman met on a golf course in 1967. What started as a screwball situation comedy ended up to be the plans for Woodstock that would take almost two years to complete. The work involved was enormous, not the least of which was getting all the musicians to show up. How many musicians? Over 20. This was something that was just unheard of at the time. And not just your run of the mill musicians. These were some of the biggest acts of the period, including Joan Baez, Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Jefferson Airplane, and of course the act that pretty much defined the concert, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

In the four days of performing the 450,000 plus people got to hear some great classics like Freedom by Richie Havens, Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival, Try by Janis Joplin, I Want To Take You Higher by Sly and the Family Stone, We’re Not Gonna Take It by The Who, Somebody To Love by Jefferson Airplane, and of course all the great tunes by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

Ironically, the song “Woodstock” was not sung at the actual concert itself. This was a song that CSN&Y recorded after they performed at the concert.

A book could be written about this concert and probably was. We’ve only scratched the surface here. And while you can’t relive the concert itself, there is a great box set of the whole concert, digitally remastered, that you can get. Enjoy!

Concert in the Park – Easy Dinner Recipes and Dinner Ideas For Family Fun

Posted by Concert Venues | Posted in Concert Venues | Posted on 24-01-2009

Concerts in the park are a great source of cheap family entertainment in the summer. Choices range from the local high school band concerts to full scale professional artists performing on local outdoor venues. In our area a local winery hosts great outdoor concerts that are enjoyable for all ages. Check your community newspaper and event pages for local events, times and schedules. Plan some easy dinner recipes and pack up a delicious family feast. It’s a great way to reconnect with neighbors and friends you don’t see that often and the music and entertainment are great too. They are great concerts to take the kids to, because they can play on the grass if they get bored. Try to station yourself near the playground equipment so you can keep an eye on the kids and an ear on the concert at the same time.

In this picnic, I’ve planned a pan bagnat, a French tuna sandwich that is delicious and perfect for picnics and outings. This easy dinner recipe comes together in minutes, but will hold for hours in a cooler and only gets better as the flavors meld. Bring some crostini and olive tapenade or hummus for spreading as a great easy appetizer. Cold crunchy pickles or green olives or kalamatas would be delicious too.

What to bring:

1) Folding chairs

2) Jackets

3) Beverages! A chardonnay would be lovely the pan bagnat, or if you prefer a red, try a merlot or a pinot noir. Bring juices for the kids and plenty of water, especially if it is a sunny day.

4) Sunscreen – a must for summertime whether it is sunny or not. Sometimes those cooler days can surprise you with a sun burn.

5) Bug spray – after the sun begins to set, the mosquitoes may come looking for you.

6) A plastic tarp in case it rains or the ground is wet.

Easy Recipes:

Pain Bagnat

This is a French style tuna sandwich. I love it for a quick summer dinner. It is also great to make ahead – it only gets better. It is wonderful to take to a picnic, because there is no mayonnaise.

Serves 4

Ingredients

1 lb French bread loaf about 14 inches long
2 Can Tuna – 6 oz – preferably in oil
1/4 C Olive oil
1/2 C Basil – fresh
2 ea Tomatoes, chopped
1/2 C Kalamata olives, chopped
1/4 C Capers, rinsed

Instructions

Slice the bread in half horizontally. Brush the bread with olive oil and layer with basil leaves. Open the tuna, but do not drain it. (If using tuna in water instead of oil, drain and add 2 TB olive oil). Combine remaining ingredients and layer into the sandwich. Wrap very well in plastic wrap and press down hard with a skillet. This gets the juicy goodness into the bread. Some have suggested sitting on the sandwich, but we will not go there. Now if you are taking this sandwich somewhere it is ready to go, remember to pack a knife to cut it. Otherwise, you can unwrap and slice to serve immediately. This sandwich is great made in the morning for a quick grab on your way out to the ballpark. Enjoy!

Easy Three Bean Salad

Great accompaniment to any meal. Will stay in the refrigerator for up to one week in a tight lidded container.

Serves 8

Ingredients

1 Can Kidney beans – 15 oz, rinsed and drained
1 Can Black beans – 15 oz, drained and rinsed
1 Can Chickpeas – 15 oz, drained and rinsed
1/2 C Parsley – fresh, chopped
1/4 C Olive oil
1/4 C Balsamic vinegar

Instructions

Combine all ingredients and toss. Cover and chill.

Classical Fiddling Adds Spark to Symphony: Review of Canadian Violinist Scott St. John in Concert

Posted by Concert Venues | Posted in Live Music Venues | Posted on 23-01-2009

0

To me the most pleasing sound in the world is that of an orchestra tuning. Last Sunday, however, it was far surpassed by the vibrantly superb sounds of Okanagan Symphony’s guest violin soloist, Scott St. John.

Canadian-born virtuoso St. John has been hailed for his “electric performances and recitals brimming with extroverted spirit,” and amply demonstrated this spirit in his performance on Sunday. Portraying a Scottish folk tradition of a fiddler weaving through the rows of corn to bless the upcoming crops, St. John entered stage right playing the lilting first bars of Maxwell Davies’ “MacDonald Dances.” This unique entrance entertained the audience as they scanned the stage for the origin of the music, saying, “Oh, there he is!”

St. John reminded me of a traditional Canadian fiddler as he played a jig at the tip of his bow and swayed to the music. My toes tapping and head nodding, I was captured by his “classical fiddling,” as one audience member described it. Add to that the sustained intervals of 5ths from the woodwinds that were cleverly written to depict droning bagpipes and I had to remind myself that I was at the symphony, not a pub!

The symphony players provided a visual feast, as always. The bobbing bows of the 1st and 2nd violinists as they played pizzicato (plucking the string) evoked visual images of corn swaying in the breeze. Douglas Sanford’s conducting was grand and passionate, and I found his interplay of smirks and raised eyebrows with St. John quite amusing.

Sarasate’s “Gypsy Airs” showed another side of the soloist: the virtuoso. Playing double-stops (2 notes simultaneously) and freely moving up and down the fingerboard with apparent ease, St. John was a passionate gypsy. The drama intensified as hairs came loose from his bow and he carried on zealously, not unlike legendary violinist Paganini.

What makes St. John so likeable is his lighthearted and friendly stage presence. The audience warmed up instantly to his youthful charm, and snickered when he played extravagant pizzicatos, lightening the mood and removing any trace of the stuffiness often felt in a concert hall. During his standing ovation, St. John stood quietly in place, seemingly modest without his violin as “woo hoo” was heard from all directions.

This program suited the symphony, the soloist, and audience very well. In addition to world-class playing, the entertainment value, which is lacking in many other orchestras, was powerfully effective. Some orchestras have resorted to goofy antics to attract audiences at the cost of cheapening the music.

The Okanagan Symphony, however, maintained that perfect balance of musicality and entertainment that elevates live performance over any audio recording.

This energetic and youthful approach to classical music is what will attract younger generations and maintain a successful orchestra for years to come.
